Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI) Student Housing : PLAID was retained as project landscape architect to design the exterior spaces in conjunction with a new 250-room dorm and student living center on the KCAI’s main campus. The spaces include an entry sequence at the main entry gate, an intimate courtyard space between the new building and old, a streetscape treatment adhering to boulevard beauty. The concept of the site design is a “mosaic” of pieces and parts, forming a collective whole. This is accomplished with an interesting hardscape design, diverse plantings, and varying elevation change. The exterior spaces will provide students a place for gathering, places for sculpture to be displayed, and opportunities for donor recognition.
