The Nelson Atkins Museum of Art has re-imagined a new way to experience mini golf dubbed the Art Course, located in the Donald J. Hall Sculpture Park, within the bosque of gingko trees. Designers, artists, and creative-types were invited to submit mini-hole designs as part of a blind competition; the task was to create a golf hole inspired by a piece of art or sculpture from the museum. Nine designs were chosen, and fabrication began to bring the ideas to life. PLAID assisted with many brainstorming, planning, and design sessions, which led to implementation. Coincidentally, a design submission from partner Brett Payton, was chosen as hole number 5; his love of “Rumi” was re-interpreted as “Zoomy”, a bold and colorful challenging hole. We are extremely excited to be a part of this unique project, in many ways, and we think KC will have fun playing some mini golf in an amazing setting.
